If you’re going on some sort of trip with your parents and you’re looking for a travelling CD that you can all enjoy, the new one from Texas five piece Midlake, The Courage Of Others, might be just the ninety minutes of wildly inoffensive, yet complexly layered and orchestrated, music you’re looking for. Coming from somewhere around Fleetwood Mac (in their last album, The Trials Of Van Occupanther) and Jethro Tull (the new thingie, CD I mean), it’ll sound old to those who want to hear old, and new to those who want to hear new. A rare win/win in today’s climate of increasing specialization and division.
Terrific track taken from The Trials Of Van Occupanther, Roscoe:
…see what I mean about the Fleetwood Mac thing?
The darling lads from Midlake will be playing a potentially sterling little concert here in Berlin at Lido on February 9th. Ticket details are below. Go to the show, sip Chardonnay, talk to your friends about how their old material is even more interesting when contrasted against the new. That’s just how you roll when you’re into Midlake.
