Noir Americana Hampshire sextet New Desert Blues have given listeners a taste of what’s to come from their debut record with the release of new song Summer Skin, a dark and brooding ballad that builds up to a smashing crescendo. Unlike their previous releases, the new track does not have a boy’s name for a title which was the signature feature of their debut EP (see our review of the Devil’s Rope EP). While their previous releases were concerned with fictional characters from the American West, Summer Skin takes on a less literal approach.
Following the Devil’s Rope EP, which is available for free download, this new track continues to build anticipation towards the band’s first full length offering, which is already shaping up to be an exciting piece of work. The Milk & Honey demo and previously released single Swarm will also be featured on the album. Album recording sessions with Ant West (Oh Wonder/We the Wild/Layla/Big Sixes) at Vale Studios throughout November and December 2014 lays the foundation for what looks to be one the great British debut’s.
2014 has seen the band tour relentlessly. Touring took them to the mainland where they were invited to join Augustines on their European tour. Later that year, New Desert Blues returned to Germany for their own run of headline shows. While they were in Berlin, we met them for an interview.
The band have just announced another run of shows across Germany after finishing their UK festival appearances. This band is absolutely amazing live, using up to four guitars at a time and polyphonic vocals.
