Berlin’s newest indie label, Späti Palace, release their first proper record tonight at Marie-Antoinette and it doesn’t come any stronger than a split 7″ with SKIING/CLASSIC MUSCLE on either side of it. Two of the most talked-about bands around at the moment get to show off their respective muscles with what should be one hell of a party brought to you by Späti Palace and Shameless Limitless.
Skiing finally make it on to vinyl after already releasing two albums and their live shows attract a hungry public always eager to see what they will unleash next, no two shows have been the same for the past year, a testament to their band leader’s talent, Everett Darling, who apparently never stops writing songs, each one better than the last.
CLASSIC MUSCLE only debuted live last October, then took a break after only two stunning live shows and then breezed back into action recently with a support show at West Germany with french punk-noisters CHEVEU, playing several new tracks highlighting their particular approach to things…constant and hectically brilliant creativity. Both bands provide a perfect barometer of a creative and talented underground scene at work in Berlin and it seems Späti Palace are here to take care of these kids. It’s being released under the catalogue number SP001. Hopefully we’ll be writing about them when they get to SP100.
The label launched itself last December with Collection#1, a free collection of 12 songs by 12 local Berlin-based bands and a pretty impressive collection it is too:
