twodoorcinemaclub 1024x682 Two Door Cinema Club + Dog Is Dead + The 1975 at Astra (sold out)In February 2010 Two Door Cinema Club burst onto the worldwide music scene with their debut album Tourist History. Two years (and a performance at the Olympics from lead singer Alex Trimble) later the trio from Northern Ireland is back with their second album Beacon. Beacon picks up where Tourist History left off. It’s not fair to compare the albums but it’s a fact you can’t deny: you will. And for those who loved Tourist History and hope to get a second uplifting dance along album, you won’t be upset because Beacon is more of the same indie pop goodness. It was well worth the two year wait. If you didn’t get a ticket for their show in November with Alt-J here’s your second chance. While Alt-J won’t be there this time (they had their own sold out headline gig in February), support comes from Dog Is Dead and The 1975 – two bands that you should keep an eye on.

Formed from the meeting of five lively minds in Nottingham in 2008 Dog Is Dead self-released a trilogy of singles, now available as the Your Childhood EP. Chapter 2 began with a tour support on the Bombay Bicycle Club October 2011 tour . The band released their debut album All Our Favourite Stories in early Autumn 2012 and are now ready to take it to the mainland.

Manchester band the 1975 will be also on the bill, doing expansive pop noir that echoes their home city’s sonic history. It’s fair to suggest The 1975 grew up understanding their city’s musical heritage, their sound does reflect the dark art-rock of New Order and Joy Division. They have just released Music For Cars, the final instalment from their acclaimed EP trilogy, the other two being Facedown and Sex. The 1975’s forthcoming debut album will be co-produced by the band and the award-winning Mike Crossey (Arctic Monkeys, Foals). I saw them live at the Introducing showcase back in January and I’m convinced that this band is one to watch!
