King Ayisoba sings in FRA FRA, TWI and English and is a big star in Ghana. There is a whole new scene now starting after King Ayisoba introduced the super catchy kologo beats to the bigger audiences in Ghana and abroad. The kologo is a two string guitar with a calabash gourd resonator, it is rhythmic and melodic at the same time. The King is bringing other musicians and dancers on this tour, dancing the traditional Frafra India and kologo dances from the area of Bongo in Northern Ghana. The dance consists of very high jumbs and originates from hunting ritual. Aboku Adortanga dancer and dorgo player’i s King Ayisobas brother and is a master in playing the “Dorgo”, a special horn from Northern Ghana used in the traditional Frafra tradition of music. The sound resembles a lamb calling out loud and what original used by the Frafra people in the forest to gather the village people to come and hunt. Since picking up the guitar as a teenager she has spent the better part of her young adult life travelling the country to play basement shows for feminist punk with bands like P.S. Eliot, bad banana and the Ackleys, all of which she sang for. Crutchfield and her twin sister Allison started these bands in high school, inspired by touring bands that would pass through Alabama, as well as a local community-run show space called cave 9 where they both volunteered. The sisters were best known as P.S. Eliot, a band a cultish underground following until that developed disbanding in 2011. Deciding to go it alone, Crutchfield became Waxahatchee and released her debut album American weekend in 2012 and its lo-fi acoustic guitar-pop songs made for one of the year’s best unsung records. With Cerulean salt, Crutchfield turns it up a notch and plugs into the guitar as well as adding a few band mates. He currently resides in the UK. Alongside his DJ partner Maft Sai ‘ZudRangMa of records’ he has hosted the ‘paradise Bangkok’ nights for the last 3 years, showcasing vintage Asian sounds as well as music from Africa and the Caribbean. The duo have so taken these nights to Japan, Germany, Switzerland, Austria and the UK to great acclaim. At their 3rd anniversary in February, the duo launched their new ‘paradise Bangkok’ imprint, which seeks to unearth little known musical gems from across Asia and Africa. Their 3rd release, has just come out. In addition, he has co-curated the ‘sounds of wonder’ series with the finders keepers EMI Pakistan label in the UK, that focusses on reissuing gems from the archives, as well as compiling the ‘sound of Siam’ ‘Sound Way’ and ‘ Thai?
