Cranky Booking brings you another of their excellent midweek shows with two favourites of Blitzgigs.de in recent times, Roller One and Man Meets Bear, both no strangers to the Cranky Nights and who this week get to display their considerable talents in the cosy surrounds of Monarch.

Roller One have been based in Berlin since last autumn and completed two lengthy tours of Europe in that time aswell as countless shows in Berlin, their most recent as support for Sean McMahon’s Western Union in Antje Öklesund was hailed by many of their devout fans as their best ever show.

The Double Bass and Acoustic guitar duo are constantly looking for new ways to interpret the song writing of Fergus McAlpin which continue the traditions of country and folk with what has become a distinctive sound of music from Melbourne, Australia. At times delicate, dreamy and whispering contrasted with heavy rhythms and deep bass notes. They have developed their duo, performance by performance, winning hearts with their virtuoso musicality and stripped back presentation.

Today sees them release the video clip for I Saw Her There from their recent album Beautiful Fountain. The Film Clip is made from stop motion footage and motion picture captured while the band toured between Berlin and Madrid playing over 80 shows in the last year.  Snow covered Jonquils in the South of France, the Tunnels through Basque Country Mountains and the freeways of sunny Barcelona.  The Clip is slightly psychedelic like much of the Bands interpretation of Country Folk Music.

The show will be one of the last chances to see the band play before they head back to Australia to record and tour.

Here’s I Saw Her There:

Man Meets Bear appear as a two piece tonight with keyboardist Evelyn Malinowski away for a little while so it’ll be a simple guitar and drums set up. The brilliance of a Man Meets Bear set has been proven by Soren Brothers both solo and within his three-piece so now we have the chance to experience them as a duo and why not:

What began as the solo project of Vancouver lake scientist Soren Brothers, Man Meets Bear has evolved into a three-piece over the past couple of years with Dave Dunnett on drums and Evelyn “Experimental Housewife” Malinowski on keyboards. Their only full band album to date, Dream BC, is a collection of “hazy memories of British Columbia, through the lens of a Vancouver indie-rock band ca. 2000”. Their live show is all things to all people, one moment driving drums and swirling guitars as on I Saw The End to moments of pop genius like Waiting For The Night to the doe-eyed, star-gazing beauty of Rainbow Beach, to the sprawling epic that is Far Below.

Here’s a couple from that record:
