John Smith + Luke Leighfield ## John Smith (UK) + Luke Leighfield (Uk/Bln) ## – John Smith (UK) // is the guitar man from Devon who has quietly become one of the most exciting voices on the new British folk scene. Touring relentlessly as headliner and support act, he has opened shows for John Martyn, Iron and Wine, Seth Lakeman, Davy Graham, John Renbourn, David Gray, Cara Dillon, James Yorkston, Martin Carthy, Jools Holland, Tinariwen, Martin Simpson, Gil Scott-Heron and Chris Thile. John is a regular on the UK festival circuit, having played shows at Glastonbury, Green Man, Cambridge and many others. In this way, he has found a loyal following in the UK and Ireland, Europe, Japan, Mexico, the USA and Canada. Slow but sure. Luke Leighfield (Uk/Bln) // was born in the midlands in England in 1987. He started playing piano when he was four and violin when he was eight. In his teens, Luke played guitar and bass in bad pop-punk bands before beginning his solo career in 2004. Since then, Luke has been a prolific performer and recording artist. In the past seven years he has played 700 shows in Europe, Russia, Canada, China and most places in between. He has released four albums, as well as greatest hits albums in Japan and China. Luke has shared stages with artists like Fun., Frank Turner, William Fitzsimmons and Joshua Radin, and has recorded live sessions for Radio 1 and Xfm in the UK. His music has been used on Sky Sports (Football First), Channel 4 (Made in Chelsea) and BBC 3 (Coming of Age). In between his own musical endeavours, Luke has sessioned on piano and violin for bands including The 1975, Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly, The King Blues, Futures, Dry the River and Tellison, yet found time to graduate from the University of Southampton with a degree in English and Music in 2009. Since then he has made ends meet by working as pallbearer, undertaker, music teacher, barista and proofreader, while maintaining a secret career as an underground pop star. In June 2012, Luke moved to Berlin where he is currently working for SoundCloud and writing new songs. He enjoys reading good books, watching Breaking Bad, eating kebabs and riding his bike. He also runs a record label, helps with booking music at Greenbelt Festival, and is passionate about social justice issues. In January 2013 he travelled to South Sudan as an ambassador for Medic Assist International. Proceeds from sales of his music have raised funds for Christian Aid and Tearfund, and he also runs for charity, completing his first marathon this year for Christian Aid.
